Last weeks scores:

Mo Western    36        Washburn                   33

NWMSU         58        UNO                            23

Fort Hays St.   34        Truman                                   9

Around the MIAA:

Central Missouri senior QB Eric Czerniewski is second in MIAA history with 9,259 passing

yards. He trails only Kasey Waterman (MWSU) with 10,025 on the all-time list. He also passed Eric Howe of Truman in total offense in MIAA history, getting to 9,355. He now ranks third all-time in that category.

The big Central Missouri win over Pittsburg St. was the Mule’s first over the Gorilla’s since 2002.

Northwest Missouri QB Blake Bolles rebounded very nicely from a sub-par performance in the Bearcats opener vs Texas A&M Kingsville with a strong showing vs UNO. Bolles completed 17 of 22 for 421 yards and 2td passes. The Bearcats rushing attack was also improved with 186 yards rushing after being held to only 49 yards vs Kingsville.

The Missouri Western vs Washburn game was a highly anticipated matchup between two ranked teams that certainly didn’t disappoint after what appeared to be a blowout at half-time. Missouri Western jumped out to a 28-7 at the half only to see the Ichabods come storming back in the second half to actually take a 33-28 lead with 5:55 left in the game. Mo Western answered back with a game winning drive ending with Drew Newhart throwing a 36 yard td pass to Michael Hill.

Emporia State picked off five passes in their hard fought 30-27 win over Missouri Southern. Four of those interceptions came in the fourth quarter. The third INT of the fourth quarter by Freshman LB Michael Luthi was the game winner for the Hornets. Luthi picked off a Collin Howard pass and returned it 54 yards down the right sideline to give ESU the lead with 5:50 left in the game

MIAA Game Previews:

3-2 record in last week’s picks.

Fort Hays St. at Emporia St: Both teams come in off wins. Fort Hays an easy win over Truman while Emporia St had to battle to the final minute to defeat Mo Southern. This will be the first road contest for Fort Hays St. Tiger QB Mike Garrison is the top rated QB in the MIAA but the Hornet defense is tenth in the nation is pass defense efficiency.                                                  My pick: Fort Hays 30 – ESU 27

Northwest Mo St at Truman: The Bearcats offense appears to have gotten on track last week in their blowout when vs UNO. One caveat….this could be a trap game if the Bearcats look past the Bulldogs to next weeks big rivalry matchup vs Missouri Western. Still the Bearcats should win this one rather easily. My pick: NWMSU 44 – Truman 13

Washburn at Central Missouri: The Ichabods were ranked until their loss last week to Mo Western. This could be a shootout with the number one and number three ranked total offenses in the MIAA. One scary fact. The Washburn defense has surrendered an average of 33 points per game. My pick: Central Missouri 44 – Washburn 38.

Missouri Southern at Nebraska-Omaha: Probably not good timing for Missouri Southern as they travel north to take on a Mavericks squad still looking or their first win of 2010. They are a much better team than their  0-3 record might indicate. Still, UNO is last in the conference in rushing defense while the Lions lead the conference in rushing offense.                                                  My pick: UNO 26 – Mo Southern 21

Pittsburg State at Missouri Western: Pitt State is still smarting from their home loss to Central Missouri and Missouri Western is coming off a nice win at Washburn. Pittsburg St is last in the MIAA in scoring offense. I’m thinking they are going to have to put a lot of points on the board to keep up with the Griffons. Missour Western needs to guard against falling into the look-ahead trap to their game next week vs Northwest Missouri St. My pick: Mo Western 35 – PSU 21
